Mako’s Sketch Journal: Stuart’s Community Garden

​Stuart, who will have a project called ‘GUERILLA GARDENING’ at the Junction art festival, has been managing ‘The S.A.D garden’ with his crew at the school of architecture and design at UTAS. I visited the S.A.D garden for a ‘Working Bee’ and had a good time and I enjoyed the smell of dirt. The gardens had been growing beautiful vegetables. More than 10 people were working together, harvesting vegetables, digging soil, seeding, planting, and so on. The scenery out the front of the architecture school building had been transformed into a farmer’s garden demonstrating a cheerful community spirit. I came back home with fresh cabbages and made Japanese vege pancake ‘Okonomiyaki.’ yummy and fun day! I’m looking forward to see ‘GUERILLA GARDENING’ project in Launceston’s CBD.

このジャンクション・アート・フェスティバルで、「ゲリラ・ガーデニング」というプロジェクトを行なう予定のスチュアートが、タスマニア大学校内で運営しているみんなの畑、「The S.A.D ガーデン」を訪ねてきました。コミュニティーガーデンではみんなで一緒に畑仕事をする「Working Bee」という日を設けていて、誰でも参加できるのです。この日は10人以上の人が集まって、土だらけになりながらわいわい作業しました。おいしそうに育った野菜を収穫して、それから土を耕して、種をまいて、苗を植えて…。コミュニティースピリットあふれる賑やかな農園にすっかりその姿を変えた大学のキャンパスは、長期休み中だというのに、お喋りや笑い声が響きわたっていました。とれたて新鮮なキャベツをお土産に家に帰り、お好み焼きにしておいしくいただきまいた。楽しいわ、おいしいわ、でなんともしあわせな一日でした。ロンセストンのまちなかで行なわれる「ゲリラ・ガーデニング」がいまから楽しみです。
