Step into a surrealist wonderland and kick off your Festival celebrations with an extraordinary mid-week party! Drawing inspiration from the extravagant and legendary Dali Parties of the 70’s, this year's theme encourages attendees to be influenced by the unconscious mind, explore the irrational, the absurd, and let this influence your finest, otherworldly costumes. Prizes for best dressed.
Gather your friends and get ready for an unforgettable festival party soundtracked by the gypsy folk punk stylings of Launceston’s own Alegría, the scorching rhythms of Baba Bruja's Afrobeat Funk dance orchestra, and the soulful electronic sounds and funky hooks of DJ duo Ema & Sexy Lucy. Be the very first to see the Val d'Osne Fountain lit up by Darryl Rogers’ projection art and play alongside Amanda Parer’s Intrude.
Meet your illustrious Opening Night hosts, the enigmatic, absolutely fantastic Les Petites Annonces. Sensational duo Edith Perrenot and Julia Drouhin will guide you through the evening, providing your appetite with the finest croissanterie of fun stories and pagan singing.
Alegría has an Aussie gypsy folk punk style that will make you want to put on your dancing shoes and hit the floor. If you haven't heard Alegría yet then make space for this raucous act!
Baba Bruja are Lutruwita/Tasmania’s only all-original Afro-beat, Funk-dance orchestra. Featuring some of nipaluna/Hobart’s best loved musicians, this fiery ensemble boasts 6 horns and a scorching hot rhythm section. Raucous, colourful, full of energy and groovy to boot, they're bringing the party to the first night of Junction Arts Festival!
Baba Bruja
Finish up your evening and boogie away the night to DJ duo Ema & Sexy Lucy. Inspired by high energy afro beats, house and disco, the duo adores creating unique journeys through their song selections; featuring soulful electronic sounds and funky vocal hooks.

Tickets will be scanned at Front of House before entry. Please bring your ticket on a mobile device, or a hard copy of your ticket to the event.
