The Literary Lounge will present audiences with a wide range of encounters, invitations, provocations, celebrations and reflections unfolding from the spoken and written word. Ranging from readings of children's stories, performed monologues, poetry, improvised spoken word, conversations and everything in between, the Literary Lounge will engage you with the island you live on and redefine your world - so relax, have a tipple and settle in to enjoy the work of lutruwita/Tasmania's finest wordsmiths and performers.
CAMERON
Dr Cameron Hindrum, curator of the Literary Lounge, has a long and varied career as a writer, performer and theatremaker in Tasmania. From 2003 - 2019 he served as Director of the annual Tasmanian Poetry Festival, and also been actively involved with TasWriters and the Tamar Valley Writers Festival. He is currently the President of Three River Theatre, and theatrical appearances over the last years have included Of Mice and Men, 1984, Calendar Girls, Amadeus, Spamalot!, Blackadder and a cameo appearance on the acclaimed ABC show Rosehaven. He has written two major plays, I Am A Lake and 101, both of which were performed professionally in and around Tasmania; he continues to write every year for Mudlark Theatre's annual One Day program. His first novel The Blue Cathedral was published in 2011 (Forty South Books) and two collections of poetry, Private Conversations Volumes 1 and 2, were published the following year. In 2021 he received a Doctorate of Creative Arts from the University of Wollongong for which he completed the novel The Sand. For previous Junction Arts Festivals he coordinated the Island Song Cycle (2019), Instapoems (2017) and appeared in Jingled!, produced by Mudlark Theatre (2021).
SONJA
I would rather tell you something about myself as a creative person. I have always been curious, even as a child. I remember pulling apart my micky mouse radio to see how it worked, and successfully putting it back together again. I also remember finding paint brushes and pink primer in the family garage and proceeded to paint the family car, the fence, the slate in the garden, my trike and my doll…. All pink. I also drew on the walls, in my books and on my clothes!
Curiosity is always there, the questioning of why and what if, and the courage to try.
A multimedia artist and designer who is interested in community and connections. Over the last 20 years has developed site-specific works and costumes for various companies and festivals.
Sonja’s most recent work has included performing SkinMusic, a Bacterial Cellulose instrument at Mona Foma (2019/2021). DJBC at Junction 2021. The large wings at Junction 2020 were also Sonja’s work.
Tickets are non-refundable except in circumstances such as the cancellation of an event or forced changes due to COVID-19.
Tickets will be scanned at Front of House before entry. Please bring your ticket on a mobile device, or a hard copy of your ticket to the event.
