Each night of the Festival, Ha Ya will transform Prince’s Square’s iconic Val d’Osne Fountain into a central beacon of awe-inspiring visuals that explore ideas of awakening and renewal. Created by multi-media artist Darryl Rogers, Ha Ya is a 360-degree video projection work that will take you on an endless journey of arrival and into a world of hope and rejuvenation as it continually evolves throughout the night. Ha Ya is a celebration of the cycles that bring light from darkness, new life from decay, and expand our wonder into knowing.
Darryl Rogers is an artist who works with video, installation, augmented reality and virtual imaging. With a distinctive use of media Rogers endeavors to alter the constituent variables of space and time attempting to poke holes in the seemingly impervious materiality of the world around us.
Rogers work has been shown extensively across the world, including, Times Square NYC, LOOP Barcelona, FACT UK, UMW Media Wall USA and many other video arts festivals around the world. Darryl has had work shown across Australia including Vivid Sydney, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, The Blake, Glover, Outback, Mandorla and Brisbane art prizes, as well as having artworks collected by Artbank Australia, Queen Victoria Museum Art Gallery and many private collections internationally.
On encountering one of his time-based installations there is an immediate sense of disorientation, realising that what is being observed seems to counter the familiar physics by which the world is known. It is this physical “non-reality” that Rogers explores conjuring characteristics of illusion, miracle, quantum mischief and the metaphysical.
