COIL

COIL is an inclusive, intergenerational collision of community, artists, and the joy of collective movement.

Led by Tasdance Executive Director Adam Wheeler and featuring 10 professional dancers, 60 local dance lovers, and the world’s most popular toy, COIL uses slinkies as a tactile partner to explore analogue play and our need for connection in an increasingly digital world. Dancers negotiate tension, resistance, and release, making relationships visible through physical cause-and-effect.

As the work builds to its feel-good, participatory conclusion, COIL leans into the power of partnering en masse, extending a festival-wide invitation for creative connection and play.

DANCEWEEKENDER

DANCEWEEKENDER is a vibrant celebration of community dance across Lutruwita/Tasmania, presented by Tasdance.

Since its inception in 2024, DANCEWEEKENDER has brought local dance groups together for afternoons of performing, teaching, and sharing. Events across the state invite social dance groups to perform a short piece and then teach their style to the audience, allowing anyone to join in, whether for ten minutes or three hours.

Over 1,000 participants have danced with DANCEWEEKENDER, showcasing the diversity of dance and the breadth of community interest.

DANCEWEEKENDER is built on Tasdance’s ethos of collaboration, access and dance-making for everyone. It’s a welcoming space to learn, share, move and connect through dance.

MAKING

Making is an evening that brings together two of Launceston’s great loves: art and food. Design Tasmania will become a living, moving gathering place where food and performance exist alongside each other, each feeding the other, each amplified by those experiencing it.

Cocktail style and in constant motion, this is an event built for discovery. Circulate, taste, watch, talk. There is no fixed seat and no single vantage point. The experience unfolds differently for everyone who moves through it.

Lead artists Emma Porteus (Live Art Curator) and Danielle Lefrancois of Hubert and Dan (Lead Food Artist) have curated the evening together, treating food and performance as equally weighted creative forms. Their collaboration draws on Launceston’s UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation and positions culinary creation as a practice demanding the same technical skill, creative vision, and cultural knowledge as any other artform.

The result is an experience for audiences who seek out the niche, the sensory, and the emotionally rich. Come hungry for more than food.

Junction acknowledges the Palawa people as the original and ongoing owners and custodians of Lutruwita. We pay our respects to elders past and present, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
