

NEW LIGHT is a Junction Festival premiere and the culmination of 'THE MAKING OF ..." series composed by world renowned composer and musician Shenzo Gregorio (FourPlay String Quartet, Shenzos Electric Stunt Orchestra) and Denni Sulzberger.
Denni Sulzberger is a Launceston musician and arts educator. She plays cello in the St Cecilia Chamber Orchestra, and has been a member of numerous contemporary music ensembles and collaborations, and is also known for “Den.”, her singer-songwriter project. Denni considers music-making and writing to be one of her most precious tools in communicating with the world, processing life events, and connecting with her community.
NEW LIGHT is a gentle bow and acknowledgement to the sun at the vernal equinox - a musical tribute to renewal and the entering of a new kind of day. It is a farewell to the shortest day in the year and a greeting to days that will grow longer. Through the minds and bodies of Shenzo Gregorio and Denni Sulzberger, NEW LIGHT is a composed warm farewell to our more restful and nourishing seasons Autumn and Winter in anticipation of new life and warmth through Spring.

Shenzo Gregorio, an Australian violinist, is acclaimed for his eclectic and dynamic approach to music. From a young age, he has been immersed in the world of music, beginning his violin studies at four and later broadening his expertise to include the viola. His educational foundation is robust, having earned a classical Violin Degree from the QLD Conservatorium in 1997. Shenzo is not only a skilled performer but also a composer and music director, contributing significantly to various arts organizations and ensembles across Australia.
He is renowned for his inventive style, particularly his development of the "stunt violinist" act, where he combines high wire aerial stunts with classical violin, capturing audiences nationwide and internationally. His career has taken him to illustrious stages such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and Carnegie Hall, highlighting his standing in the music community.
Shenzo has also made notable contributions to musical theater and opera in Australia, having directed and composed for Opera Australia's first indigenous musical, among other projects. His work extends into collaborative efforts with other prestigious artists and ensembles, enhancing his repertoire and influence in the music scene.
His membership in the FourPlay String Quartet since 2004 has seen him contributing to its unique sound and helping it gain international acclaim. The quartet is known for its innovative covers and original compositions, blending various music genres and often incorporating Shenzo's unique flair.
