A kid with a camera. Two adults. No rehearsal. Enter the mind’s eye of Bub, an 11-year-old obsessed with documentary filmmaking, who turns to dramatised re-enactments to make sense of a family breakdown. In this docudrama experiment from re:group performance collective (Coil, 2023), two new, unrehearsed adult actors join Bub onstage each night. Discovering the story live, they navigate tough questions about parenting, agency, mental health and how we speak to children. Bub wants to get to the bottom of her mum’s erratic behaviour. Can these two adults answer a child’s toughest questions? POV is re:group’s playful, urgent, live version of documentary, blurring personal history, performance and human connection.
