Katie Yap is a Japanophile and one of Australia’s most in-demand viola players. Her work spans classical, baroque, and experimental music, encompassing performance, composition, and arrangement. Recently, she also began learning the sanshin as a refreshing counterbalance to the formality of professional music life.
Together, Yyan and Katie sing island songs from Okinawa to the Yaeyama archipelago—as a form of musical therapy.
Junction acknowledges the Palawa people as the original and ongoing owners and custodians of Lutruwita. We pay our respects to elders past and present, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
