Christopher Coleman is something of an enigma, living and loving just out of view on the island of lutruwita/Tasmania. Wild and rare. The one-time winner of both Triple J Unearthed and the Telstra Road to Discovery, he has collaborated with some of Australia’s biggest names, released four critically acclaimed albums, and even has a sound installation on permanent exhibit at MONA.

“Christopher Coleman seems to move slowly through the world,” says MONA’s David Walsh. “But his sloth is deceptive. He sees and hears things that others don’t.”

His songs and voice are effortlessly Australian, and his records are as diverse and varied as our landscape: His brilliant 2022 album, The Great Tasmanian Escape, was produced by Augie March’s Glenn Richards and featured a super-group of Australia musicians; Coleman self-produced the beloved follow-up Soft Knees Recordings in his back shed.

His latest album, Live at The Chapel, was recorded in one session in response to the genocide in Gaza. It was lovingly recorded with the newly formed Soft Knees Band and was released on April 16 this year.
