Great Earthquake (Melbourne)
Noah Symons is an visual artist and musician who performs under the moniker “Great Earthquake”. In his musical performance Noah utilises a number of instruments to create soundscapes, organically built up in time, with a strong emphasis on rhythm.
In performance Noah has seldom stayed still, playing shows to his home crowd in Melbourne and also touring Sydney, Hobart and Adelaide. Noah was also invited to perform at The Falls Festival NYE 2009/2010 and in New Zealand in February 2011 at the ‘Camp A Low Hum’ festival, were his performances were well received, and during his stay was further invited to perform a few more times around Wellington. He has played with a myriad of amazing bands this year including Born Ruffians(Canada), High Places(USA), Toro Y Moi(USA), Mick Turner(Dirty Three), Otouto, and Love Connection, to name but a few.
Great Earthquake released his first full length album ‘Drawings’ in May 2010 on the Sensory Projects label which was distributed by Inertia in Australia and New Zealand. The album received great reviews all over, album of the week on Sydney’s FBi radio, high rotation on Melbourne’s Triple R, airplay on Triple J, and from the album Drawings, Melbourne’s street press ‘Beat magazine’ chose the song ‘Words And Images’ as single of the week. Noah is currently working on the follow up to Drawings which which will be titled ‘Mind Maps’. He has already released a double single from it with the tracks ‘Appropriate’ and ‘Mindmaps’. ‘Appropriate’ received single of the week in Melbourne’s Inpress magazine as well as the coveted single of the week on online magazine, Milkbar.
